SAG and AFTRA National
Boards Approve Merger Package
By now, you have no doubt seen the articles about
the recent actions of the SAG and AFTRA National Boards with respect to a
merger of the two Unions. On January 27th
and 28th, 2012, the National Board of Directors of the Screen Actors
Guild and the National Board of Directors of the American Federation of
Television and Radio Artists, respectively, voted overwhelmingly to approve and
recommend a merger package to be sent to their respective members for
ratification.
Since SAG is aware that many of our members choose
to have their agent’s address listed to receive documents and/or correspondence
from the Union, we wanted to be sure that our agent community is as informed as
possible as this process moves forward. We also want to ensure that an open
line of communication is maintained in order to answer any questions that you may have.
The approved resolution provides for the
referendum materials to be mailed to members on or about February 27, 2012,
with a ballot return and tabulation deadline of March 30, 2012. We ask that if you receive this package
from either SAG or SAG/AFTRA on behalf of your member clients, that you forward
that information to them as soon as possible. The material is dated and very important. We want every member entitled to vote to
have an opportunity to do so and in an informed way.
Information about the merger is available at www.sagaftra.org. We invite you to refer members to this website for their
questions.
